In honor of Lunar New Year 2014, we debut a new character named Sweet Honey, the Happy Horse!
Sweet Honey’s hair is golden brown, like the color of honey, and her temperament is super sweet – hence the name Sweet Honey! She loves to eat clementines and is often seen carrying two extra ones around for good measure. You never know when you might get hungry and need a snack! Sweet Honey is very kindhearted and often finds it difficult to say no so she sometimes gets into situations over her head. But one thing’s for sure, once Sweet Honey becomes your friend, she is loyal and true to the end 🙂
Sweet Honey and everyone at Mint Purple Studio wishes you and your loved ones a Happy Lunar New Year of the Horse. As a thank you to our fans and clients, please feel free to download our studio’s Lunar New Year wall decorations. Just print, cut out and tape/hang them around your home. Enjoy! Happy holidays from some of this year’s beautiful babies to you and your loved ones <3 As I review this year’s work, I’ve learned so much about my shooting and processing style. Hoping that I will continue to improve in 2014 and be lucky enough to shoot more cute babies!! <3

I’m so blessed to be able to shoot quite a few newborns in 2013. I love photographing babies, newborns in particular, because almost anyone can buy a fancy camera nowadays and take “pro photos.” However, not everyone can master working with babies. You need to spend hours to shoot while soothing the little one and sometimes that is no easy feat. It requires a lot of patience to say the least. But I llllllloooooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeeee working with babies! Sometimes my husband will ask why don’t you just keep shooting instead of spending hours trying to soothe and get the baby into one pose? That’s just the nature of the beast – newborn photography. It is not an occupation for the rushed!
Mister E is one of my last babies in 2013. He was a super champ and slept most of his session – a real doll to work with and I’m so happy with the images from the shoot. More importantly, I knew Mister E was relaxed, enjoyed his session and hopefully momma too! I’ve never seen such a smiley baby until Mister E came along. He definitely showed me lotsa love, smiling with almost every prop and outfit change.
We did a self family shoot just in time before this mama gives birth. It took a lot of effort and time – 150 shots for around 10 images that I felt met my expectations. Self shoots are always a challenge because you need to style, think about the shots, lighting, focus in time to some degree and then make sure any toddlers stay still enough not to blur too terribly. But being able to capture this special time was worth all the sweat and tears. The styling for this shoot was classic-themed and the shoot style was lifestyle. Our baby loves playing on the bed with us so I took advantage of shooting during his favorite activity to catch some of his most precious sweet smiles and lively personality.
